AVC and DivX
What is AVC
AVC, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, is a standard for video compression. With the features of AVC format, both the Blu-ray Disc format and the now-discontinued HD DVD format include the H.264/AVC High Profile as one of 3 mandatory video compression codecs. Sony has also chosen this format for their Memory Stick Video format.
What is DivX
DivX codec has become popular due to its ability to compress lengthy video segments into small sizes while maintaining relatively high visual quality. DivX codec uses lossy MPEG-4 compression, where quality is balanced against file size for utility. On the 6th of January 2009, DivX 7 was released, which added H.264 video, AAC audio and Matroska container support, surpassing the restrictions of their previous formats.
